LEO: An Employee Communications App

In my capacity as a Senior Copywriter at MGM Resorts, I helped launch the company's first-ever mobile employee communications app: LEO.

LEO was the primary focus of my work from July 2018 to December 2020, when I departed to take another opportunity within the digital communications space. I was LEO's product manager, performing duties that included the responsibilities of a lead content writer, content manager, technical support professional, and data analyst — or, as I liked to say, its showrunner. I led efforts to help company employees (especially line-level employees without company-provided email addresses) do their jobs more effectively with engaging news and operational updates accessible directly from the mobile device of their choice or desktop computer, reducing redundant forms of communication and streamlining the process of information dissemination.

During the COVID-19 crisis and its impact on operations, LEO pivoted and served as a crucial source of information from the company and local health authorities for MGM's 60,000 employees.

By the end of my tenure, we had rolled LEO out to MGM's entire American portfolio and select employees in Macau. Nearly 70% of the company's total employee base was signed up for the 100 percent voluntary, opt-in app by December 2020; we recorded over 10.4 million unique content impressions in 2019.
